5 – 9 September 2014

This year;s theme is ‘Sharing’

The Observatoire de MAISON&OBJET has clicked on the “share” icon and is reflecting the latest influences in design and decoration. With the running theme “Sharing”, it explores the dynamics of “creative sharing” and foresees a benevolent future. Immerse yourself in the new Inspirations Trend Book and discover its perspectives in Hall 7, in the spaces designed by Vincent Grégoire for Nelly Rodi, François Bernard and Elizabeth Leriche.

Our era is clicking on the “Share” icon. Generation G for Generosity is bashing cynicism and liking “We”. New uses and values are reconfiguring ways of living together, exchanging information, goods, services and experiences. In the digital age, networking information is producing new tools with emerging practices in an economy of collaboration and cooperation. We are seeing a dynamic of creative sharing which is programming the future of a caring world.

Designer of the year is Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon, MAISON & OBJET’s 2014 Designer of the year, blows a whiff of London air into Paris. He creates an ephemeral workshop in partnership with the high echnology company Trumpf. This “instantaneous factory”
produces, in real time, a collection of diffusers and candles with a London fragrance. The packaging, products and boutique are like the event: unique.

Conference

Friday, September 5th from 11 am to 11.45 am
The conference space, Hall 7
The talented, hard-to-categorize Tom Dixon is always where you least expect him: an art director, interior designer, entrepreneur, designer, fashion designer, author… His collections are distributed throughout the design world; his spaces are glamorous and authentic. His is the success story of a self-made designer.

Beirut Design Week is held annually in June across Beirut City, featuring exhibitions, conferences, workshops and open studios showcasing the work of local and international designers operating within Lebanon. The event focuses on creative economies, intercultural exchange, design education and design entrepreneurship. Beirut Design Week is organized by the MENA Design Research Center, a non-profit organization cofounded by Doreen Toutikan and Maya Karanouh. The Center is focused on promoting a diverse understanding of design through the implementation of design research and collaborative multidisciplinary projects in the region.

BEIRUT DESIGN WEEK 2014: 3RD EDITION OF OUR MYRIAD DESIGN CULTURE

For the third consecutive year, Beirut Design Week brings you again the latest on all forms of design -local and international- spread all over the city, encompassing over 80 events and locations. With every year the design community grows and the goals of Beirut Design Week become more apparent. Since the beginning, the event stands firmly on three pillars which are the foundation and basis of all the activities that place during the week. These pillars are: creative entrepreneurship, education, and community. All three categories are equally important and sum up the reasons why MENA Design Research Center has initiated and continues to nurture this annual event.
